Violence against children
Every child present in a family where domestic violence occurs is severely affected by domestic violence. Children are present in families in almost 80% of cases after the abusive person is expelled from the shared household and in almost 60% of cases when the endangered persons contact us themselves.
As witnesses or as direct victims of violence, children can often take on roles of protectors of the non-violent parent, take responsibility for the family situation, but also adopt inappropriate parenting patterns. All of the mentioned can damage their healthy development and personality formation.
In our opinion, timely and intensive assistance to children from families where domestic violence occurs is essential to mitigate the impacts of domestic violence on children. In the intervention centre, we work with the entire family system where the foremost interest is the healthy development of the child.
